10 Vol set published by The Globe Publishing Co of the Sussex Edition of Shiela Kaye-Smith's works. Cream/beige textured effect boards with blind embossed image of kneeling girl with flowers to front panel , gilt lettering.190 x 125 mm approx. Educated in Hastings Kaye-Smith was a great lover of Sussex, laterly living in a converted Oast House in Northiam and funded the build of The St Teresa of Lisieux R.C. Church in Northiam. Her historical novels are liberally sprinkled with the names of farms settlements villages and towns of Sussex. Local trades and traditions are also well featured together with characters the surnames of which still survive in the county making the books of particular interest to Sussex folk past and present. This set is exceptional in that it survives with the original glacine "Transmatic" dust jackets with printed paper flap folds giving details of other "Pocket Editions" published by The Globe Publishing Co. Tears to a number of the glacine wrappers but no loss. The books which have printed maps of Sussex on the end papers are clean and have no previous owner names or inscriptions. Lacks the slip case in which they would have originally been supplied but nevertheless a prize purchase or gift for the library of a collector of works on Sussex. Please see our images of the actual set offered for sale.
